Cyclone Mocha likely to be dangerous: Rain likely in southern states
The Meteorological Department has expressed the fear that the low pressure area formed over the South East Bay of Bengal may turn into a cyclone. This cyclonic storm has been named Mocha. According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Mocha will initially move north, north-west towards central Bay of Bengal till May 11 and then change its direction and move north-northeast towards Bangladesh, Myanmar coast. In view of which the fishermen have been instructed not to go into the southeast Bay of Bengal.
During this time, wind speed of 70 km per hour and rain are expected. The Meteorological Department further said that as Cyclone Mocha advances, there is a possibility of rain in the southern states. Along with this, the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of heavy rain in the Andaman and Nicobar island group today.
The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The department has asked small sea vessels and fishermen not to venture out from Tuesday. It has also been asked to limit and closely monitor tourism and shipping near Andaman and Nicobar Islands till May 12.
On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a statement saying that there is no need to fear the cyclone. He said that people from coastal areas will be rescued if any difficult situation arises.
