Guidelines announced for Indian students who want to work in Canada

Students are allowed to work in Canada on certain study permits but only after the start of their study program.

An important guideline has been released for Indian students going to Canada to study. The Canadian High Commission in India has given important information to the students about studying and working in Canada.

The Commission has said, ‘If you are going to Canada this winter, a Border Service Officer will review your documents. Be prepared to show documents to prove that your DLI (designated learning institution) has allowed you to come late, that you have received a deferral.

Keep in mind that some study permits allow you to work in Canada but you can only start working when your study program begins.

It is worth mentioning that every year a large number of Indian students go to Canada to study. The craze among Indians for Canada has grown to such an extent that it has become the second most preferred destination for studying abroad.

The commission has asked its prospective students to ensure that they prove through documents that their university or college has allowed them to come late. Apart from that, the students have been informed about the change in their course dates.

These students will get work permit

According to Canada Immigration Guidelines, students are only allowed to work off-campus if they are enrolled as a full-time student at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Apart from that, students taking admission in post secondary academic, vocational or professional training programs will also be allowed to work. While students studying in Secondary Level Vocational Training Program (Quebec only) will be allowed to work off-campus as per the rules mentioned in the study visa.

Here it is important to note that the course chosen by the student should be at least 6 months. This course can be either a degree, diploma or certificate. Apart from the course requirement, international students must also have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada.
