Paris Olympics 2024, Day 13 Live Updates: Neeraj Chopra is looking to become the first athlete since his idol Jan Zelezny in 2000 to win two consecutive Olympic golds in men’s javelin throw. Before that, the Indian hockey team will be looking to win back-to-back Olympic medals for the first time since the 1972 Games. Aman Sehrawat, meanwhile, could be a bright light in India’s rather traumatic wrestling campaign in Paris if he manages to get one more win today.
Paris Olympics 2024, Day 13 Live Updates: Aman Sehrawat has flown through the round of 16 and quarterfinals of men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling with two wins by technical superiority and is now one win away from confirming at least a silver medal for himself. The Indian men’s hockey team are now looking to win a second consecutive Olympic medal as they face Spain in the bronze medal match. If they win it would be the first time since 1972 that India are winning consecutive Olympic medals in hockey.
Indian fans have high expectations on Day 13 as defending champion Neeraj Chopra will be in action in the men’s javelin throw final. Neeraj’s final will take place in the second half, and is scheduled for 11:55 PM IST. The first half has begun with golf and Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar are in action. Meanwhile, Jyothi Yarraji came 4th in the women’s 100m hurdles repechage round and is out of semi-final contention.
In wrestling, Aman Sehrawat reigned supreme in his men’s freestyle 57kg round of 16 bout against his Macedonian opponent Vladimir Egorov, winning 10-0. He then beat Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov 11-0 and thus stormed into the semi-final. He is now up against Japan’s Rei Higuchi and is now one win away from confirming at least a silver medal. Meanwhile, Anshu Malik lost her women’s 57kg round of 16 bout.
It was a disappointing day for India on Day 12 of the ongoing Paris Olympics, as Vinesh Phogat got disqualified from the women’s 50kg gold medal match, as the Indian wrestler failed to make the weight on the morning of the bout. She was 100gm overweight and announced her retirement since then. She has also appealed to the CAS to allow her to receive a joint silver medal. Meanwhile, Mirabai Chanu came fourth in women’s 49kg weightlifting with a total lift of 199kg.
In table tennis, the Indian women’s team lost 1-3 to Germany in the quarter-final. Meanwhile in athletics, Avinash Sable came 11th in men’s 3000m steeplechase final, and Jyothi Yarraji came seventh in the women’s 100m hurdles heats.
