'The world is seeing the yoga economy growing', what did PM Modi say on the historic journey of 10 years of International Yoga Day?
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi practiced yoga in Srinagar. After doing yoga, he gave his address. Emphasizing the importance of yoga, the Prime Minister said that new opportunities have been created by yoga. Yoga is not just knowledge but science. Yoga increases concentration. Research is now being done on yoga.
New Delhi. The world is celebrating International Yoga Day (International Yoga Day 2024) today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi practiced yoga at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC) in Srinagar. On the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day, PM Modi performed many yoga activities from Vajrasana to Balasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana and Uttanapadasana.
Addressing the Yoga Day program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that I am fortunate to come to Kashmir. I am feeling the power we get from yoga in Srinagar. I congratulate all the people of the country and those who practice yoga in every corner of the world from the land of Kashmir on Yoga Day. International Yoga Day has completed a historic journey of 10 years.
177 countries supported Yoga’
Prime Minister Modi further said, “I had proposed International Yoga Day in the United Nations in 2014. India’s proposal was supported by 177 countries, which was a record in itself. Since then, Yoga Day has been continuously making new records. In 2015, 35 thousand people did yoga together on Kartavya Path in Delhi.”
Research is being done on yoga’
Referring to Kashmir, PM Modi said, “Jammu Kashmir is the land of yoga practice. It increases productivity and endurance. Yoga has created new opportunities. Yoga is not just knowledge but science. Yoga increases concentration. Research is now being done on yoga. Yoga has become a new trend of tourism.
‘Astronauts also do yoga’
Stressing on the importance of meditation, PM Modi said that in the age of information and communication, it has become very difficult to concentrate. In such a situation, yoga has become very important for people. It helps in positive efforts. He said – Astronauts also do yoga.
Referring to a 101-year-old woman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this year a 101-year-old female yoga teacher from France was awarded the Padma Shri in India. She never came to India but she spent her entire life spreading awareness about yoga. Today, research is being done on yoga in prestigious universities and institutions of the country and the world. Research papers are being published on yoga.
In the year 2015 Yoga Day celebrated for the first time
PM Narendra Modi had proposed to celebrate Yoga Day in the United Nations General Assembly on 27 September 2014. The United Nations General Assembly accepted the proposal to celebrate Yoga Day on 11 December 2014. After this, the first International Yoga Day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. After this, every year people all over the world celebrate this day as Yoga Day.
