India wins 2 Oscars for the first time: 'Natu-Natu' for Best Original Song, 'The Elephant Whisperers' for Best Short Documentary

Good news came out of the 95th Oscars ceremony on Monday morning. The song ‘Natu-Natu’ from the Indian film RRR won the award in the Best Original Song category. ‘Natu-Natu’ had earlier won the Best Original Song title at the Golden Globes Awards. RRR’s ‘Natu-Natu’ lyricist Chandra Bose and composer MM Keravani took home the trophy at the Oscar ceremony.

This year director SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR’ got a nomination in the Best Original Song category. RRR was the first Indian film to receive a nomination in this category. RRR made India proud by winning this award. Earlier, Kal-Rahul gave a live performance on RRR’s song ‘Natu-Natu’. The audience gave a standing ovation as the performance began.

2 women have done for India: Guneet

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the Best Documentary Short Film award. It is directed by Karthikeyi Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga. On receiving the award for Best Documentary Short Film, producer Guneet Monga wrote on social media, We have just won the first Oscar for an Indian production. Two women have done it. I’m still shaking. Along with this, director Karthiki Gonsalves wrote – This award is for my motherland India.

Guneet’s second documentary won an Oscar

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is Guneet’s second Oscar-winning film. Earlier, his film Period and of Action won the Oscar Award in the category of Best Documentary Short Film in 2019. The film is about a South Indian couple Boman and Bailey who take care of an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu. The film shows the bonding between humans and animals.

Deepika Padukone joined as a presenter

Deepika Padukone has been a part of the ceremony this year as a presenter. The ceremony began at 5.30 am in Los Angeles on Monday. Live streaming via Academy Awards Twitter handle is not available in India.
