Dancer Jia Powell posted on her Instagram account that her partner Zahad is now eight months pregnant and wrote that we are about to fulfill our dream of becoming parents.

Our lives should be different from other transgenders

Speaking about this, Jia, a classical dance teacher in Kozhikode, said, “When we started living together three years ago, we felt that our lives should be different from other transgenders. Most couples are ostracized by society as well as their families. We wanted a child so that even after our days there would be a person in this world,” said Jia, adding that they had arrived at the decision to have a child after much thought and deliberation.

Our journey to becoming a trans man and trans woman will continue

Zahad, 23, and Jia, a 21-year-old trans woman, have been living together for the past three years. Since then, both have undergone hormone therapy as part of their transition process. Zia said Zahad’s breasts were removed as part of the transition process, adding that she would continue her journey to becoming a man after giving birth next month. Jia said, ‘Our journey of becoming a trans man and trans woman will continue. I continue my hormone treatment. Six months or a year after delivery, Zahad will begin treatment again to become a trans man.

Along with this, he was told that the help of doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, where Zahad is due to deliver the baby next month, was sought. “Since Zahad had both breasts removed, we hope to feed the baby from the breast milk bank at the medical college,” said Jia.
