Millions of users around the world use the messaging platform WhatsApp for chatting and messaging, but even those who violate its policies and community guidelines have their accounts banned. Now it has been revealed that WhatsApp has banned more than 36 lakh Indian accounts within a month. The company has shared this figure in the compliance report. Between December 1 and December 31, WhatsApp has banned a total of 3,677,000 accounts in India. The company said that 1,389,000 of these accounts were proactively banned.

Action against WhatsApp abuser


Meta-owned platform WhatsApp has shared a monthly compliance report under regulations related to IT Rules, 2021. The report states that necessary action has been taken against millions of accounts misusing WhatsApp. To identify Indian accounts, the company uses the country code (+91) attached to the number. WhatsApp has more than 40 crore users in India.

In December, users sent 1,607 complaints to WhatsApp’s complaints department. The company has said that after investigation, 166 of these complaints have been acted upon. Notably, the IT Rules 2021 clarified that all platforms with a userbase of more than 50 lakhs will have to publish monthly compliance reports. This report will explain how the complaints were handled by the platform.

The biggest reason for WhatsApp account ban is related to spam messaging. That means if you are using this platform to send spam messages and harass others then the account may get banned. Likewise, promoting any kind of racial, religious, incitement to violence or rumors on the platform may also result in account ban.
