The whole country has been shaken by the road accident in Sultanpur village of Vaishali district in Bihar. A speeding truck rammed into a Shobhayatra (religious event) near the village. In this accident, 12 people including women and seven children were crushed to death. The accident was so terrible that seeing the truck coming near, people screamed and there was chaos. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have expressed grief over this incident.
The incident took place at around 9 pm in Vaishali district, about 30 km from capital Patna, when people had gathered in front of a roadside ‘peepal’ tree to worship a local deity ‘Bhumia Baba’. Local RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan reached the spot and said, 12 people have died. Nine people died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

After the accident, the police told that a procession was taken out as per the custom associated with marriages. The marriage was fixed in a few days at the house of a person resident of nearby Sultanpur village. The driver of the truck coming at a high speed on the adjacent Mahnar-Hajipur highway lost control. After this incident, there was chaos in the area, those who lost their loved ones were seen standing on the roadside crying. Many others raised angry slogans alleging that the police arrived too late.
Compensation of two lakh each to those who died – PMO
After the incident, the PMO tweeted, Vaishali’s accident in Bihar is sad. Condolences to the bereaved family. May God give speedy recovery to the injured people. Each family of the deceased will be given an ex-gratia amount of two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). 50 thousand rupees will be given to each injured.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is pained by the death of people due to a speeding truck in Desari police station area of Vaishali district. Describing the incident as tragic, he expressed deep condolences for the dead.
