A couple blocked the road when a corporation’s bulldozer arrived to demolish a house in Bengaluru. He threatened the authorities that he would set himself on fire if the house was demolished. The couple doused themselves in petrol. However, a match was lit to start the fire but it did not catch fire.
Police and neighbors rescued
Seeing the couple setting fire, the police and neighbors came together to save them. Neighbors poured water on him and snatched the petrol bottle from his hand. In fact, a demolition drive is underway in Bengaluru these days, demolishing illegal structures obstructing the city’s drainage. As part of this campaign, on Wednesday, the bulldozer of the Municipal Corporation reached the SR Layout of KR Puram to demolish the illegal construction.

When the corporation team reached the house of a couple named Sona Sen and Sunil Singh, they were standing near the wall of the house and started threatening to commit suicide by spraying petrol on themselves. In the meantime, the policeman and the neighbor convinced the couple not to take any step in anger.
Sona Sen did not listen to them and continued to pour petrol on her husband and herself from the bottle. He took out a match stick. Tried to light it but it didn’t light. Then some people standing above poured water on him with a bucket. People standing around grabbed the husband and wife and pulled them up. After this, a firefighter’s tin splashed water on him.
People also appealed to the municipal authorities to stop the demolition work for some time. Neighbors and police then dragged the couple inside the house. The video of this incident is going viral on social media.
The couple blamed the system
Municipal officials say the couple’s house is among six houses in the area, which have been built illegally on stormwater drains. However, the couple claims that the city administration is trying to make them homeless. He says he has all the documents to declare his house legal.
