Car sales cross 3 lakh for the fifth consecutive month in the country as shortage of semiconductors clears
The auto sector has picked up pace due to the festive season that started in the country from the month of August and the elimination of the shortage of semiconductors. Especially during August, growth was seen in the sales of companies like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia.
During August 2022, a total of 3.5 lakh cars were sold across the country with a growth of 30 percent. August turned out to be an auspicious month for the auto sector as 3.5 lakh cars were sold and August was the fifth consecutive month when wholesale car sales remained above 3 lakh. Even during July 2022, 3.41 lakh cars were sold. The country’s leading company Maruti recorded a growth of 30 percent with sales of 1,34,166 units in the month of August alone.
Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest auto maker, reported a 30 per cent increase in passenger vehicle sales to 1,34,166 units during August from 1,03,187 units in the same period a year ago. Sales of utility vehicles like Brizza, Ertiga, S-Cross and XL6 stood at 26,932 units as against 24,337 units during the previous month.
Shanshak Srivastava, Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki said that with record sales of 3.42 lakh units in July and sales of over 9 lakh units in two consecutive quarters, demand will continue to be strong and production will also be scaled up to meet the demand.
Maruti sold the highest number of cars at 1.34 lakh
Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car maker, sold the highest number of 1,34,166 cars last month. Which shows a growth of 30% annually. Tata Motors sold 47,166 cars in August, up 68% in wholesale car sales. Currently, car dealers have a backlog of around 6.5 lakh to 7 lakh car orders.
Rapid growth in export sales along with domestic
Nissan Motor India has recorded wholesale sales of 8915 units with domestic sales of 3283 units and exports of 5632 units. Total wholesale sales registered a growth of 29 percent. Focusing on the global market. Exports registered 534% month-on-month growth, 71% year-on-year growth.
