Dr. Kim said that his group has done several studies in the past that show that sleeping in dim light can also increase heart rate and blood glucose levels. Dr. Jonathan Sedernis, a sleep expert at Uppsala University in Sweden, told Medical News Today that adults who sleep with light exposure for long periods of time may face heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, etc. in the long run.

    A new study was conducted that tracked the sleep of 552 adult women and men. Dr. Kim said, “In the new study, we measured the sleep and light exposure of adults for 7 days. The study was not conducted in a lab but on people in their routine settings. The study found that more than half But fewer people slept in a dark room for at least 5 hours and slept in light for the rest. Dr. Kim said the research found that all those who slept with light exposure had a 74 percent higher risk of high blood pressure, an 82 percent higher risk of obesity, and an 82 percent higher risk of diabetes. The risk was found to be 100 percent.

    Dr. Kim advised that people should stay away from light while sleeping. If you are used to sleeping in the light, at least use the light. Avoid electronics while sleeping as much as possible and use a sleeping mask if there is too much light around you, he added. Apart from this, Dr. Kim also said that if you need a light for safety at night, keep it in a place where its light does not shine directly on your eyes. He said, use red light instead of blue light in the room for night time.
