In the last 4 days alone, more than 94,000 applications have been received under the Agneepath scheme. According to the Indian Air Force (IAF), 94,281 applications have been received under the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme within four days of the start of the registration process on Friday.\
After the scheme was unveiled on June 14, violent protests erupted against it in several states for almost a week and several opposition parties are demanding its withdrawal. Defense Ministry spokesperson A Bharat Bhushan Babu said on Twitter, “A total of 94,281 Agniveervayu candidates have registered till 10:30 am (Monday). Registration will close on 05 July.”
Till Sunday, the IAF had received 56,960 applications. Under this scheme, the government has said that youth in the age group of 17 and a half to 21 years will be inducted for a tenure of four years, while a maximum of 25 percent of them will be inducted for regular service later.
The government had on June 16 raised the maximum age limit for recruitment under the scheme from 21 to 23 years for the year 2022, and later announced several steps such as priority for Agniveers in central paramilitary forces and defense public sector undertakings. was announced. In the press conference held on June 21, Air Marshal Jha had said that after the training of the first batch, the number of Agniveers in the Indian Air Force will increase to 6,000 in the fifth year.
Several BJP-ruled states have also announced priority for Agniveers to join the state police forces. The armed forces, however, have made it clear that violent protests and arsonists against the new recruitment scheme will not be included.
