Ishan Kishan to Make India Comeback? Selectors Have Set One Big Condition...

The BCCI is walking the talk. Earlier this year, it had asked India cricketer to not miss domestic cricket if not busy with national duty. With no international cricket for over a month and India’s domestic season set to get underway with the revamped Duleep Trophy early next month, a host of top India players could be seen in action plying their trades for various India representative teams in the historic red-ball competition.

Through the competition, India cricketers including captain Rohit Sharma, batting superstar Virat Kohli among others will get into the Test mode with Bangladesh to tour for a two-match series from September 19.

The tournament will also serve as a platform for a certain Ishan Kishan to relaunch his India career according to a report in The Indian Express.

The selection committee wants the wicketkeeper-batter to play in Duleep Trophy if he harbours ambition of India comeback.

Ishan was dropped from India squads across formats after he reportedly asking for a break from cricket midway through the South Africa tour. He didn’t feature for his domestic team Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy either despite the BCCI’s warning to cricketers on skipping domestic competitions.

The BCCI cracked the whip and Ishan was snubbed from the board’s annual list of centrally contracted players. In the meantime, the 26-year-old continued training in Baroda alongside India allrounder Hardik Pandya.

Ishan later made his competitive return through the DY Patil T20 tournament in February before representing Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

Ishan, who has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is so far, had opened up on his sabbatical in an interview with The Indian Express.

“I was scoring runs and then I found myself on the bench,” he said. “These things do happen in a team sport. But I experienced travel fatigue. It meant there was something wrong, I was not feeling well or right and so I decided to take a break. However, sadly, barring my family and few close people no one understood that.”
