Mumbai Rains Live Updates: IMD scales down alert, warns of moderate rain through the day

A day after the city was brought to its knees owing to incessant rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has kept the city under ‘yellow’ alert today, stating that light and moderate spell of rainfall will continue throughout the day. The red alert issued on Thursday was valid till 8.30 am this morning.

What is happening in the city? The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has announced that schools and colleges in the city and suburbs will be open today. The Thane Municipal Corporation, however, has already announced a holiday for all schools and colleges within its jurisdiction in the wake of the heavy rainfall warning.

According to the weather department, on Friday, temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius and a minimum of about 24 degrees Celsius. Besides rainfall, there is a strong possibility of gusty winds reaching speeds of 60-70 kmph.
