What happens in Chirag Paswan’s ministry?
This ministry given to Chirag Paswan deals with the formulation and administration of rules, regulations and laws related to food processing. Processing of dairy products, milk, fruits and vegetables, packaged food and beverages etc. come under this ministry.
This ministry has an important contribution in the country’s economy. It contributes 13 percent to exports and 6 percent to industrial investment. It has also attracted foreign direct investment.
An investment of US $ 4.18 billion has come from 2014 to 2020. However, India also imports a very large amount of food processed products from abroad. In the budget of 2023-2024, Rs 3290 crore was allocated to this ministry.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme and Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry are the major schemes of this department.
