New Delhi. BJP, which claimed to form a government with full majority on its own in the Lok Sabha elections, has suffered a major setback. BJP fell far behind the magic figure of 272 required to form the government. However, NDA has got an absolute majority, while the India alliance was successful in gathering about 234 seats.

BJP suffered the biggest setback in many states of North India apart from UP-Bengal. In 2019, BJP had won 62 seats in UP, but SP and Congress together reduced BJP to 33 seats. BJP has also suffered losses in Bengal. In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 18 seats here, but now it could win only 12 seats.

In Maharashtra, where BJP had won 25 seats in the last election, but now it has been reduced to 9 seats. Similarly, in Rajasthan, last time BJP had won 25 out of 26 seats, but now it has been able to get only 14 seats in its account. At the same time, BJP’s performance was bad in Karnataka too. BJP could win only 17 seats here. BJP did a clean sweep in Haryana in 2019, but this time it has lost five seats.

Even though NDA’s performance was bad in many states of North India, BJP has performed better in the southern states. BJP had a surprising performance in Odisha. There was double happiness for BJP in Odisha. Along with Lok Sabha, there were great results for BJP in the assembly elections. BJP captured 20 Lok Sabha seats here, while for the first time it is also going to form the government here.
