Big blow to Congress in National Herald case, Court upholds ED's attachment; 752 crore worth of property is the case

National Herald case The difficulties of Congress are increasing continuously in the case of National Herald. The PMLA court has upheld the seizure of assets worth around Rs 752 crore by the Congress-backed National Herald newspaper and its associated companies by the ED in a money laundering case. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are major shareholders of one of these companies.

Agency, New Delhi. Congress has suffered a major setback in the National Herald case. The PMLA court has upheld the ED’s action against Associated Journal Limited (AJL) and Young India (YI), the company that operates the National Herald newspaper, after an extensive hearing in the money laundering case.

In fact, the ED had issued an order to attach assets worth 752 crores of AJL and Young India, which has now been upheld by the adjudicating authority.

Let us tell you that even Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been questioned in this case. Rahul and Sonia Gandhi had 76 percent stake in Young India.

What did the court say?
The court in its order said that it believes that the property and equity shares attached by the ED are proceeds of crime and are linked to the crime of money laundering. The central agency had in November last year attached these properties by issuing an attachment order against Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and Young Indian under money laundering.

National Herald is published by AJL and is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are major shareholders of Young Indian and hold 38 per cent stake each.

There are properties in many cities
The list of properties attached by ED includes National Herald House in Delhi, Nehru Bhawan in Lucknow and National Herald House in Mumbai. In this case, ED has also interrogated many other people including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi.
