'Fake news': Congress denies pelting stones at Rahul Gandhi's car
Congress on Wednesday denied reports of stone pelting on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
The rear windscreen of Gandhi’s vehicle was found broken, with Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury saying the yatra was targeted as it was entering Bengal’s Malda district from Katihar in Bihar. Gandhiji was not injured in this incident.
In a post on Twitter, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate claimed that the windscreen was broken due to a rope used to mark the security cordon.
“A huge crowd had come to meet Rahul Gandhi. To meet Rahul Gandhi, a woman suddenly came in front of his car, due to which the brakes suddenly applied. The windscreen of the car was broken due to the rope used in the security cordon. Shrinate tweeted, “Rahul Gandhi is fighting for justice against the injustice being done to the people. The public is with them, the public is keeping them safe.
Earlier in the day, visuals from the scene showed Gandhi getting out of the SUV and examining the damaged windscreen.
Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said, “It is possible that someone from behind may have thrown a stone into the crowd.” He further said, “The police force is ignoring it. A lot could have happened due to ignorance. This is a small incident, but anything could have happened.”
