Significance of Ambedkar Jayanti
The significance of Ambedkar Jayanti is also special because it draws attention to caste-based bigotry, which persists in our society even after 75 years of independence. By celebrating this day we remember Babasaheb’s contribution in uplifting the underprivileged. He drafted the Indian Constitution which gave equal rights to all citizens irrespective of caste, religion, caste or culture. Ambedkar founded the Bahushkrit Hitkarini Sabha, a central body to promote the fundamental rights and education of the untouchables, and also campaigned for Dalits to have access to public drinking water supplies and the right to enter Hindu temples.
