Cutch-Pak. Magnitude 4.3 earthquake on border, 6 aftershocks in 24 hours in Amreli

On the one hand, earthquakes in Syria and Turkey have caused unimaginable devastation. The whole world is shocked by this incident. On the other hand, Gujarat has been experiencing earthquakes for a long time now. Even in Gujarat, due to frequent reports of earthquake shocks in some districts, there is a feeling of fear among the people. A magnitude 4.3 earthquake occurred in the northwest along the Kutch-Pakistan border, 270 km from Rajkot. According to the National Center for Seismology, its epicenter was within 10 kilometers of the ground.

People rushed out due to the shock of the earthquake

At 3.21 pm people rushed out of their houses when the earthquake struck. Apart from this, there has also been a movement in the recording system of the epicenter of this earthquake, which is only 270 kilometers away from Rajkot, one of the important big cities of Gujarat and on the border of Kutch. However, there were no reports of damage to any property due to the shock of the earthquake.

Earthquake tremors continue to be felt in Amreli

Importantly, 6 earthquakes have been recorded in Amreli in 24 hours. According to a record, since 2021, there has been a continuous increase in earthquake tremors in Amreli. However, on the other hand, it is a matter of relief that these shocks are mostly of very low intensity. Only 5 aftershocks were recorded above magnitude 3. Earthquakes below magnitude 3 are relatively less damaging.

An earthquake of magnitude less than 2 is relatively harmless

In this regard, Seismology Department Director General Sumer Chopra said about the causes of the Amreli earthquake that earthquake shocks continue to occur in Amreli when the Indian plate collides with the Himalayan plate. These tremors occur under seasonal activity in Saurashtra. 80 percent of all aftershocks in Amreli were less than magnitude 2. 13 percent of cases had a magnitude of 2 to 2.2. Thus, 86 percent of shocks are below magnitude 2. Which is relatively harmful.

Earthquake in Nepal also shook Delhi

It may be mentioned here that shocks were felt at many places in India earlier. Last Wednesday i.e. February 22, earthquake tremors were felt from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Nepal. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in Nepal. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 4.8 on the Richter scale. The center was about 70 km from Jumla in Nepal. However, earthquake tremors in Delhi NCR are relatively mild.
