More than 15 people were burnt when a burning effigy of Ravana collapsed on a crowd of people on the occasion of Dussehra in Haryana’s Yamunanagar.
There is a unique tradition of burning the effigy of Ravana on Vijayadashami. According to this tradition, effigies of Ravana were burnt across the country on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a major tragedy was happening in Haryana’s Yumunanagar.

During Ravana Dahan, the effigy of Ravana fell on the crowd. It is being told that 15 people were injured due to the fall of Ravana’s idol.

ANI has shared a video of this incident. A Ravana Dahan program was organized late in the evening on Dussehra day in Yamunanagar. Effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhakaran were set on fire on this occasion. Suddenly the burning effigy of Ravana fell on the crowd. A huge crowd had gathered to witness the Ravana Dahan programme. Suddenly, the burning effigy collapsed on the crowd, causing a stampede and more than 15 people were burnt.
Burning effigies of Ravana across the country
On the occasion of Vijayadashami, effigies of Ravana were burnt in many cities of the country. First of all, the burning of effigies of Ravana was started from Amritsar in Punjab and Patna in Bihar, after which Ravana could be seen burning wildly in almost all the cities of the country. Today Dussehra festival is being celebrated across the country. Dussehra symbolizes Achai’s victory over evil. Ravana is cremated on this day. According to mythology, on this day Lord Rama freed mother Sita from the clutches of Ravana and killed Ravana.
