Army jawan beaten to death, 6 accused including councilor arrested

An Army jawan has died after being brutally beaten up by a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) worker and his associates in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri and six people have been arrested in the case. Police said, 29-year-old Lance Naik m. Prabhu was attacked and horribly beaten by a party worker named Chinnaswamy and others. The jawan, who was seriously injured in the incident, was admitted to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries today.


On February 8, Prabhu and his brother Prabhakaran had an argument with DMK activist Chinnaswamy over washing clothes near the town panchayat water tank at Velampatti in Pochampally. In the evening of the same day, Chinnaswamy and his associates allegedly attacked Prabhu and Prabhakaran. Prabhu was admitted to a private hospital in Hosur.


The Nagarsampatti police had earlier registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. A case has now been registered under Section 302 (murder). Lt. Col. N. Thiagarajan tweeted, “Army jawan Prabhu was brutally beaten by DMK councilor Chinnaswamy in Pochampally area, after which he died. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should take appropriate action. As Senior Vice President of All India Ex-Servicemen Council, I strongly condemn this act.
