On 26 January 1950, the Constitution of the country was implemented. India’s first President Rajendra Prasad hoisted the flag by giving a 21-gun salute. Since then Republic Day is celebrated on 26 January every year. The country became a republic on 26 January 1950. In this way, Ekvriha was completed on 26 January 1951, then the country’s second Republic Day was celebrated. In this way 10th Republic Day was celebrated in 1959, 20th in 1969, 50th in 1999. Similarly, in 2022, India celebrated its 73rd Republic Day and now in 2023, India will celebrate its 74th Republic Day.


Why Republic Day is celebrated only on January 26. ?


When the country gained independence from the British on 15 August 1947, the Constitution of India was implemented in the country three years later. This day also marks the power of us Indians to democratically choose our government. Our constitution also came into force on this day. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar chaired the Drafting Committee (Musada Samiti) of the Constitution. On January 26, 1950, the country was fully declared a republic. That is why we celebrate Republic Day on 26th January itself. Republic Day is also celebrated on January 26, as it was on this day in 1930 that the Indian National Congress declared the country fully independent.
