A prominent American cancer specialist has warned that India will face a ‘tsunami’ of serious diseases like cancer due to globalisation, growing economy, population and changing lifestyles. He has emphasized on the use of technology based treatment techniques to tackle it effectively. Dr. Chairman of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA. As Abraham said, vaccines for cancer prevention and treatment, expansion of AI and data digital techniques, and diagnosis with liquid biopsy are among the 6 trends that will reshape cancer treatment in this century.
In an article in the Manoram Year Book 2023, Dr. Abraham has said that the other three trends are genomic profiling, development of gene editing technology, and the use of next-generation immunotherapy and cART cell therapy. He said that digital technology, information technology and telehealth will reduce the gap between patients and specialists. This will potentially increase the availability of specialist care in the interior parts of our country. This includes rural areas where most of our population lives.
