Helicopter crashes in Ukraine's capital Kyiv, killing 18 including interior minister

Kiev. 18 people, including senior Interior Ministry officials and two children, have died in a helicopter crash near the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Police of Ukraine gave this information. Ukraine’s national police chief Ihor Klymenko said an emergency service helicopter crashed in Brovary, an eastern suburb of Kyiv. Nine people on board the helicopter were among those who lost their lives.


According to police, Interior Minister Denis Monastirsky and Deputy Minister Kirill Tymoshenko were killed in the helicopter crash. Officials had earlier said that 22 people, including 10 children, were injured. The helicopter crashed near a ‘kindergarten’.

Local media quoted a police spokesman as saying the dead included Interior Minister Denis Monastirski and his deputy minister. At the same time, the head of the Kyiv regional administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, said on his Telegram channel that all students and employees had been evacuated from the building. He said that police and doctors are working at the accident site.


According to the Ukrainian newspaper ‘Kiev Independent’ – all 9 people present in the helicopter have died. Apart from this, two children are also included among the nine people killed. These were present in kindergarten. The rest are employees of this kindergarten. A total of 22 people are injured and 10 of them are children.
