She wanted to buy a smartphone for herself by selling blood. When the officials of the blood bank came to know about this, they gave this information to Childline. Here the girl was counseled and sent to her parents by the District Child Welfare Committee.

The incident is said to be on Monday. Councilor Kanak Kumar Das informed about this incident in the blood bank of Balurghat district hospital. He has said that the girl came to us at around 10 o’clock in the morning. In the beginning we thought that she has come to donate blood. But when we found out that he wanted to sell blood, we were shocked. Then we thought that she was collecting money for her brother’s treatment, said Das. That’s why they want to sell blood. After that we talked to him a few times. Later she said that she is actually selling blood because she wants to buy a smartphone. The girl said that she had ordered a phone online for herself from her relative’s phone and did not have the money to pay for it. It is said that this girl came to Balurghat from a place called Tapan. Which is about 30 km from there. The girl’s father drives a vegetable lorry. His mother is a housewife. He also has a younger brother, who studies in class IV.

The girl is a minor. That is why the blood bank officials called the child line. After that Councilor Rita Mahato reached there and interacted with the girl. He said that the girl had ordered a smartphone worth 9000. The delivery of this phone was to be done on Thursday. The girl left home on Monday saying that she is going to study in tuition. She kept her bicycle at the bus stand and walked from there to Balurghat Hospital. Childline authorities reported the case to the district child welfare department of the state government. The committee then contacted the girl’s parents. The girl’s father said, I was not at home when she left the house. He said, I don’t know from where the idea of buying a phone by selling blood came into his mind.
