Bus overturns in 500 meter deep valley in Uttarakhand: 25 killed in accident, 50 people were in bus; People searched for dead bodies with mobile flash lights
A bus plunged into a 500-meter-deep ravine in Uttarakhand’s Paudi Garhwal district late on Tuesday night. The bus full of criminals was going to Karagaon from Laldhang in Haridwar. The driver lost control near Seemdi village and the bus plunged into the valley.
The accident took place at Birkhal area of Paudi Garhwal district around 8 pm. The rescue operation was delayed due to the night. Locals came to know about the incident and helped in the rescue. Due to darkness, dead bodies and injured were searched with the help of mobile flash.
State DGP Ashok Kumar said around 50 people were on board the bus. A team of police and SDRF has rescued 21 people. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.
9 people were rescued till late night
At around 1 pm, Uttarakhand Police said, ‘9 people have been rescued. 6 injured have been admitted to hospital, out of which one is in critical condition and has been referred to Kotdwar for treatment. 2 people who were rescued suffered minor injuries. The rescue operation was difficult due to darkness. The rest have been evacuated till Wednesday morning.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the tragedy. He called and ordered the officials to reach the spot. The CM himself reached the disaster control room to review the rescue-operation.
