“I fell into a bore while sleepwalking.”

Talking about this incident, 12-year-old Manisha told , “Early in the morning, I suddenly fell into a bore while walking in my sleep. After this I shouted but no one outside heard. After an hour or two my father came looking for me and I shouted again. My father lit a torch in the bore so that I could see. At first my father tried to pull me out with the ropes, but I couldn’t get out. I was very hot in the bore for 7 hours and had trouble breathing and I thought, I am not going to live anymore, but the army and health team pulled me out and I lived.”

“While informing the health team, Manisha screamed again and went 70 feet deep.”

Rameshbhai Patel told , “My farm is right opposite the farm where this incident took place. I was present in the field since early morning. Suddenly I got a call from Anirudhbhai that Arjunbhai’s girl has fallen into a bore while working in his field. So I ran from my field straight to the bore. Meanwhile, Manisha’s parents were trying to get her out. When I arrived, Manisha was trapped at 35 feet. By the time I called the panchayat members and the health department team, Manisha screamed again and went 70 feet deep. After this, Manisha became choked and stopped speaking. At around eight o’clock the health staff rushed first. Thus it was approximately four-five hours from the time Manisha fell into the bore and till the health team reached. After this, after about two-three hours of hard work, Manisha came out unharmed and as she got a new life, the people present there raised the slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai.

“We tried to pull Manisha out with the ropes but we were unsuccessful.”

Anirudhbhai said in , “While working in my field, Arjun called me early in the morning that his daughter Manisha has fallen into a bore. After this I called Rameshbhai. Rameshbhai’s farm is opposite my wadi. Rameshbhai reached there first and within a few minutes I also reached there. After which we called the sub-sarpanch and the health team. At first we tried to get Manisha out ourselves but failed. After this the health team arrived and they first gave Manisha oxygen through a tube and started trying to extricate her. However, despite continuous efforts for an hour, the army team came and took Manisha out at approximately 11.30 am.

“Fail in 4th try, Manisha kicked out in 5th try”

FHW Jalpa Amrelia, 25, from Gajanwav, who pulled Manisha out of the burrow and treated her, said, “It was almost 4 hours before we came to know about the incident. I got a call from our staff at 8 am that a girl has fallen into a bore in Gajanwav. I rushed to the hospital and from there arranged oxygen and reached the scene. A crowd of people had already gathered near the bore. At first I tried three or four times to pull Manisha out, but I was unsuccessful as the rope slipped from her hand. Due to the unbearable heat in the bore, his breathing was very slow and his head was also downwards. After this I immediately gave oxygen to Manisha and started talking to her. After this, Manisha asked for water. In the meantime, the army personnel came and started trying to get Manisha out.

“When Manisha was taken out, her breathing was very slow and her body was cold.”

Nurse Jalpa Armelia further said that, “Manisha trapped in the bore was talking bangdi-bangdi. Hearing this I felt that her bangle must have got stuck. After this, the army team made a rope like a bangle knot and inserted it in which Manisha’s hand could be pulled out if it got stuck. However, we tried this five to six times but we did not get success. Again we put the rope in the same way and Manisha was pulled out by the army personnel as the rope got stuck in her hand. When Manisha was taken out of the bore, her body was completely cold. His oxygen level was also very low. Thus, we brought him to the hospital while giving treatment in an ambulance. At present, Manisha has fractured her hand and we keep calling her for routine checkup.

“I had no hope that my daughter would live.”

Manisha’s father Arjunbhai told, “When I woke up at six in the morning, my daughter was not in the cot. Seeing this I started looking for him. Hearing my daughter’s soft cry, I went to the bore and found her there, lighting the lamp. I immediately called our farm owner Anirudhbhai and he sent the opposite farm owner Rameshbhai here. We tried to get Manisha out but could not get her out of the burrow. My daughter was in the bore 70 feet deep for seven hours and I had no hope that my daughter would come out alive, but I was so happy when the army and health team brought her out alive I was so happy that my daughter was born again.
