Sanket Mahadev: India's first medal at Commonwealth Games 2022, Sanket wins silver in weightlifting

Sanket Mahadev: India has won its first medal in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games. India’s Sanket Mahadev has bagged a silver medal in the 55 kg category.

Commonwealth Games 2022: India’s account opened with a silver medal on the second day today (July 30) in the 22nd Commonwealth Games being played in Birmingham, England. Today, star weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar has given India its first medal. Sanket Mahadev Sargar has achieved this feat in the final in the men’s 55 kg event. Sanket Mahadev Sargar exerted his full strength in 6 attempts of two rounds and lifted a total weight of 228 kg and won the silver medal.




A resident of Sangli, Maharashtra, Sanket has meanwhile not only made it to the finals of the Commonwealth Games, but has made people his admirers by performing brilliantly. He lifted a best of 113 kg in the first round i.e. snatch. After that, in the second round i.e. clean and jerk, he lifted 135 kg weight and won the medal in his name.

Injured signal in last two attempts




Sanket was also injured in the last two attempts of the second round. In the second attempt Sanket went to lift 139 kg, but failed and was injured. The medical team checked the signal and provided immediate treatment. Sanket then said he was fine and got ready for the third attempt.

Sanket once again went for 139 kg in the third attempt, but failed and this time got injured. Thus Sanket had to settle for silver. Bin Kasdan Mohammad Anik of Malaysia lifted a total weight of 249 kg and won the gold medal.
