On 26 July 2008, a series of bomb blasts took place in the city of Ahmedabad. This event will complete 14 years on 26 July 2022. Tuesday will mark the 15th anniversary of the incident. Regarding this, Mahaprabhuji Ko.O., which is located at Asarwa, to pay tribute to the dead through Asarwa Youth Circle on Sunday. Yes. A tribute meeting was held in the society, where the deceased were paid tribute by their relatives offering floral tributes. The relatives present then said that the court has given a verdict in the bomb blast case six months ago on February-2022. In this judgment, it was ordered to pay one lakh to the relatives of the deceased and 50 thousand to those seriously injured and 25 thousand to those who suffered minor injuries. He said that even after six months have passed since this order, neither the family of the deceased nor the injured have received the compensation amount.
14 years ago today, the city was rocked by bomb blasts in 22 places including Maninagar, Narol, Isanpur, Bapunagar, Khadia, Civil Hospital and Sarkhej area of Samisaanj Ahmedabad city. Not only Gujarat but the whole world was shocked by this bombing. 56 people died in this bombing. So 246 people including the current cabinet minister Pradip Parmar were injured. Even a bull died. In this crime, the city crime branch arrested around 80 accused in phases and produced chargesheets against them in the court, two of them died and the cases against them were dropped. When the accused Dr. Abu Faisal’s application for separation of the case was ordered on 1-8-2014 so that the case against the remaining accused was kept separate.
A joint hearing was conducted in the cases of bomb blast in Ahmedabad and bomb planting in Surat. As the case against the accused in these cases went on, Special Designated Judge for Speedy Trial of Serial Bomb Blast Cases, Additional Sessions Judge A.R. Patel gave the verdict on 18 February-2022. After 13 years and 14 days, in a 7015-page judgment, the accused were sentenced to fines. Each accused except Accused No.7 was ordered to pay the total fine of Rs.2.85 lakhs for all the offences. While accused no-7 was fined 2.88 lakhs.
The accused ordered to pay one lakh rupees to the family of the person who died and 50 thousand rupees to the person who was seriously injured in this incident and 25 thousand rupees to the person who suffered minor injuries. In this order para no. 73 lists the dead. Whereas in para no.73 .1 the list of deceased has been disclosed, in which the names of 56 persons have been shown. Similarly in para no 73-2 the list of grievous as well as simple (ordinary) injuries has been disclosed. The names of 246 people are shown in this list.
According to the order made by the court, if an amount of one lakh rupees is paid to the families of 56 deceased, then 56 lakhs will have to be paid. If the seriously injured persons are paid 50 thousand rupees, then 34 lakhs will be paid and if 178 persons with ordinary (simple) injuries are paid 25 thousand rupees, they will have to pay 44 lakhs. In total, the family of the deceased, serious as well as general injured have to pay a total amount of 1 crore 34 lakh rupees as compensation as per the court order.
Court gave verdict but compensation not yet received – Gitaben Vyas
Gitaben Vyas, living in Asarwa, told Divya Bhaskar, ‘My housemate Dushyantbhai Motilal Vyas and my grandfather Rohan Dushyantbhai Vyas died in the bomb blast on 26 July 2008. So my little babo Yash was serious but now he is fine. The court gave a verdict. We have not received anything even to pay the compensation.’
Government to help: Bhalchandragiri Goswami
Bhalchandragiri Shankargiri Goswami told Divya Bhaskar, ’13 years ago today, my son Chandangiri died in a bomb blast at the Civil Hospital. The court had ordered six months ago in February that money be given to the family of the deceased and Vagela, but nothing has been received so far. So the government should help in that.’
Family of deceased will get assistance but not yet: Manisha Chauhan
Manishaben Rajinikanth Chauhan said ’13 years ago my brother Ajay Rajinikanth Chauhan died in a bomb blast. The court had ruled in February, that the family of the deceased will get assistance, but it has not yet been received.’
So what should we do?
Rekhaben Rameshbhai Gajera told Divya Bhaskar, ’13 years ago my son Sumit Gajera died in a bomb blast. The court had decided that there has been no news even of giving 1 lakh assistance to these people, so what should we do?’
We have not received any support yet: Shardaben Salaria
Shardaben Saleria told Divya Bhaskar, ‘There was a bomb blast 13 years ago, my nephew was killed. The court ruled that assistance will be provided but we have not received assistance yet.’
Aid was supposed to help but not received yet: Nirav Patel
Niravbhai Jashwantbhai Patel told Divya Bhaskar, ‘My father Jashwantbhai Patel died in the Civil Hospital bomb blast. Six months ago, the court had given a verdict that help was to be given, but we have not received help.’
I was seriously injured: Yash Vyas (Injured)
Yash Vyas told Divya Bhaskar, ‘My father and my brother were killed in a bomb blast on 26 July 2008 and I was seriously injured. The court gave its verdict six months ago, but we have not yet received help.’
Right now I still have a knife in my hand: Chauhan Manubhai (injured)
Manubhai Veljibhai Chauhan said in a conversation with Divya Bhaskar, ‘I was very seriously injured in a bomb blast at a civil hospital. Nine shots were fired. Even now I have a knife in my hand. It has been 13 years since this. The court has given a verdict to provide 50 thousand assistance, but no assistance has been received yet.’
Government should promptly comply with court order and pay aid to affected: Sanjay Patel – President, Asarwa Youth Circle
President of Asarwa Youth Circle and local leader Gumansinh Rajput said, ‘The court has given a verdict against the accused of Ahmedabad serial blast on 18-2-2022. Along with this verdict, the court ordered to pay 1 lakh rupees to the relatives of those killed in the blast and 50 thousand rupees to the injured person, but even though six months have passed since the verdict, not a single rupee has been paid to the affected people. The state government promptly complied with the court’s order
Assistance should be paid promptly to those affected.’
He further said, ‘The accused in this case were punished. The tremors of the blast have also subsided, but the agony of the families of the deceased has not yet healed. Even today the people of Ahmedabad as well as the relatives of the victims are reminded of it.’
