A person with agricultural knowledge who will become the Chancellor

The minister said that since the Gujarat Agricultural University Amendment Bill 2019, a person with knowledge in agriculture related fields has been appointed as the Chancellor, but now the bill has added a special qualification of agricultural economics for appointment. Also, in agricultural universities, the post of Chancellor cannot be held after the age of 70 years, so a person not more than 65 years of age will be appointed so that the Chancellor can complete his service for five years.

Approval of the course has to be taken from the Department of Agriculture

The minister said that in this amendment bill, the approval of any agricultural course in the agricultural university will now have to be taken from the agriculture department of the state government. The State Government will appoint the members of the committee for the appointment of the Chancellor.

This committee is chaired by the Chancellor. In agricultural universities, when the Chancellor does not agree with the decision of the governing body, an amendment has been proposed that the Chancellor can submit the same to the State Government instead of the Vice-Chancellor. The bill also amends the appointment of one government representative to the governing body of agricultural universities.
