Pakistan has arrested the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Sajid Mir. An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has sentenced the conspirators to more than 15 years in prison for terrorism financing. Let us tell you that earlier the Pakistani Intelligence Agency had claimed the death of the most wanted Sajid on behalf of the FBI. If experts are to be believed, Pakistan has pretended to punish Mir to get out of the gray list of FATF.
Sajid Mir sentenced to 15 years
A senior lawyer dealing with terrorism financing cases of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawa leaders told PTI on Friday, “Earlier this month an anti-terrorism court in Lahore banned Lashkar- E-Taiba affiliate Sajid Majeed Mir has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.” The Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab Police, which shares conviction information in such cases to the media, has been charged with terrorism financing. Mir’s conviction was not reported. (Language)
Sajid was in the list of most wanted terrorists
According to the Nikkei Asia report, Pakistan has denied Mir’s presence for years and even once claimed that he was dead. Sajid Mir is on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists. A reward of USD 5 million has also been announced on Sajid. Both America and India have been looking for him for many years. In an interaction with the media portal, former Finance Minister of Pakistan, Hammad Azhar said that Pakistan took steps against Mir and other designated terrorists which were “satisfactory” for the FATF. In addition, speaking to Nikkei Asia, an FBI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Mir is “alive” in Pakistan and is in custody. He has been sentenced.
