Accordingly, about 21.75 percent of the posts were vacant. It has been said in this report that about 92 percent of the total labor force comes under five major ministries or departments. These include Railways, Defense (Civil), Home Affairs, Posts and Revenue. The share of Railways is 40.55 percent in the total prescribed strength of 31.33 lakh posts (excluding Union Territories). Government sources said that following Modi’s instructions, various departments and ministries were asked to prepare the details of vacancies and after a comprehensive review, a decision was taken to recruit 10 lakh people.
