Day Special: Today is the longest day of the year at 13 hours and 28 minutes

This year on Monday 21st June the day in Bhavnagar will be 13 hours, 27 minutes and 46 seconds and the night will be 10 hours, 33 minutes and 14 seconds. Thus the Northern Hemisphere has the longest day and the shortest night while the Southern Hemisphere will experience the longest night in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Fiji.

Ta. After 21st June the sun turns south so it is called Dakshinayan. The length of day and night depends on the direction of the moon and the tilt of the earth towards the sun, the speed of rotation of the sun and so on. The Earth’s axis is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees, which means that people feel cold and hot because the Earth’s head is tilted south and north. In Bhavnagar, sunrise will be at 5.59 am on June 21 and sunset will be at 7.27 pm.

After June 21, the sun will move south. Hence it is called Dakshinayan. The length of day and night depends on the direction and motion of the moon as well as the tilt of the earth towards the sun and the speed of rotation of the sun etc. which are constantly changing. From now on the days will get shorter and the nights will get longer by the difference of seconds.

The festival of Bhim Agiyaras will be celebrated today

Tomorrow is the traditional day of Bhim Agiyaras i.e. Nirjala Ekadashi. On this day Bhima fasted without eating anything or without water hence Bhima is called Agiyaras. On this day, worship of Lord Vishnu yields the desired fruit. In Gohilwad, on the eve of this Agiyaras, it is a long tradition to go to the house of sisters-in-law and nieces and give mangoes.
