Samastipur: A video of an elderly couple asking for money to “relieve their son’s body from a government hospital” has surfaced on the streets of Bihar’s Samastipur. A hospital staff has reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the couple to release their son’s body. Poor parents do not have that much money, so they are roaming around the city begging for money.
This video of the victim’s parents has gone viral on social media. The father said that his son, who had gone missing a few days ago, has been reported to be at Samastipur Sadar Hospital. The father said, “Sometime back my son went missing. Now, we have got a call that my son’s body is in Samastipur’s Sadar Hospital.

Father Mahesh Thakur told ANI that an employee of the hospital has asked for Rs 50,000 to drop my son’s body. We are poor people, how can we pay this amount?

The NDTV report said that most of the health workers in the hospital are on contract who often do not get their salaries on time. In such a situation, the employees ask for money from the families of the patients. There have been many cases where hospital staff have taken money from relatives of patients.

On the other hand, after the video went viral, the hospital administration has said that strict action will be taken in the matter. Samastipur Civil Surgeon Dr SK Choudhary said, “Those found responsible will not be spared. It is a matter of shame for humanity.” He said that such cases have happened in the past in which action has been taken. Action is bound to be taken in this also.
